Tuskegee’s Cherry picked as SIAC’s Player of the Week
Tuskegee University freshman guard Austin Cherry was selected as co-Player of the Week announced by the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference office Monday morning.
Cherry came off the bench with a career week in three games for Tuskegee. The freshman scored a career-high 26 points in a win over Clark Atlanta, connecting on 77.8 (7-of-9) percent of his shots and 66.7 (4-of-6) percent from beyond the arc. He also shot 80 (8-of-10) percent from the free throw line and dished out a pair of assists. Just three nights later, Cherry set a new career-high with 28 points in a win over Fort Valley State. The freshman shot 69.2 (9-of-13) percent from the floor and 50 (3-of-6) percent from beyond the arc. He finished the week adding 14 points in a victory over Albany State.
For the week, Cherry averaged 22.7 points per game. He shared the honor with Clark Atlanta’s Tim Sanders.
The Golden Tigers are off until Saturday when they host Stillman College in the home regular season finale on Senior Day.
