Alabama Man Accused of Attacking His Wife with a Hatchet

An Alabama man accused of attacking his wife with a hatchet and leaving her on a New Mexico highway has been indicted for attempted murder.

New Mexico State Police announced Tuesday that a Cibola County grand jury also has charged 54-year-old William A. Crisp with aggravated battery against a household member and tampering with evidence.

Police say the couple lived in Arab, Alabama. They didn’t know if Crisp has a lawyer yet.

A passing motorist reported finding a badly injured woman on Interstate 40 near Grants around 2 a.m. on Feb. 1.

Police say the woman suffered severe head trauma but identified her husband of 22 years as the attacker.

They say Crisp was found at a truck stop near Gallup with blood on his clothing and inside his vehicle.
