Warhawks beat Middle Georgia 75-59
Senior Bobby Thompson led the Auburn Montgomery men’s basketball team to a 75-59 victory over No. 24 Middle Georgia State University with his game-high 19 points.
NOTES
• With the win, the Warhawks improve to 14-11 (8-7) on the year.
• The Knights fall to 14-7 (11-5) on the season.
• The win improves AUM to 3-1 all-time against Middle Georgia.
• The win puts AUM into a four-way tie for fifth place in the Southern States Athletic Conference.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Thompson picked up a game-high 19 points. He also added four steals and three boards, while finishing 8-of-12 from the floor..
• Junior Reagan Eubanks added 14 points with nine rebounds, a block and four steals. He finished a perfect 5-of-5 from the charity stripe.
• Freshman Desmond DeRamus also finished in double-figures with 12 points on the night. He added two assists, two steals, and eight rebounds in the win.
• Junior Paul Harris picked up a game-high 12 rebounds. He finished with six points and added two assists and a steal.
• Kieston Standfield and Ryan Wilkins led the Knights with 12 points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• AUM led wire-to-wire other than one tie, a 4-4 mark, after the first two minutes of the game.
• AUM led by double-digits for the first time, 19-8, after a 15-4 run was extended with a trey from Eager with 13:07 on the clock.
• AUM extended the lead to 15, 26-11, after a quick 7-0 run was finished by a jumper from DeRamus with 7:38 left in the half.
• Middle Georgia responded with an 8-2 run to bring the lead back under double-digits, 28-19, after a jumper from Hinton with 5:31 on the clock.
• Middle Georgia hit a three in the final minute of the half to trail by nine, 32-23, at the break.
• AUM jumped out in the second half to a game-high 22-point lead, 50-28, after a 15-0 run that ended with a three from Thompson with 14:33 on the clock.
• Middle Georgia cut the lead to nine, 56-47, after a 19-6 run was capped off by a three from Edmonds with 8:18 remaining in the game.
• AUM took back a double-digit lead, 60-49, after a jumper by White with 7:22 in the game, and held on to a double-digit lead the remainder of the game.
• AUM finished the game on a 10-4 run in the final two minutes of the game to take the 75-59 victory.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• AUM converted 40.3 percent of its shots, finishing 29-of-72 from the floor. The Warhawks hit 4-of-14 (28.6 percent) from behind the arc.
• The Knights shot 26.9 percent from the floor, finishing 18-of-617 from the field. Middle Georgia hit 9-of-28 (32.1 percent) from behind the arc.
• AUM finished 13-of-24 (54.2 percent) from the free-throw line. Middle Georgia shot 14-of-20 (70 percent) from the charity stripe.
• AUM won the battle of the boards picking up 56 rebounds to Middle Georgia’s 48.
• AUM won the battle inside outscoring Middle Georgia 46-10 in the paint.
