There are 18 children from the country of Uganda. They are making their way around the world singing and dancing in hopes of getting a good education.
Twenty years ago, Ronald Ssekabira was one of them.
“Yes, I met nice and loving people along the way and these people decided to sponsor me for my education, and I went to university through their support and I was about to get a bachelor’s degree in environmental science and natural resource management,” said Ssekabira.
He says without those sponsors, his life would not be the same as it is today.
“I wouldn’t have been able to make it to where I was at the university. Probably made it to one or two years of secondary school,” said Ssekabira.
He says the schools in Africa are not adequate and many children don’t have access to a good education.
“There are not enough facilities. The teachers are not well paid and classrooms are not available. Sometimes they take classes under the trees.”
But thanks to the African Children’s Choir Tour, children like these have the opportunity to go wherever their dreams will take them.
“Knowing that somebody is providing for them, giving money so they can get an education is a big motivation piece for them. So they are really motivated to go to school and really work hard,” said Tour leader Heidi Moen.
