Faulkner softball blanks Montreat, rolls Reinhardt

Freshman pitcher Caitlin Perry delivered a brilliant two-hit, 10-strikeout performance to anchor Faulkner’s 8-0, five-inning route of Montreat (N.C.) before the the Lady Eagles went on to roll Reinhardt (Ga.) 5-1 on the opening day of the Faulkner/AUM softball Invitational here at Wynn Field.

Perry (1-1) put away 10-of-17 batters and walked none in the lopsided Game 1 win. Her 10-strikeout effort marks the most by a Faulkner freshman since 2008.

Makenzie Anthony was just shy of perfect at the plate going 5-for-6 on the day with four runs and a pair of RBIs.

Jessica Butterworth had three hits, three RBIs and two runs on the afternoon while Holli Brooks and Sophie Slemp tallied three and two RBIs, respectively.

Emma Cornell (1-0) scattered five hits over seven innings while securing four strikeouts and allowing an earned run in the win over Reinhardt.

Faulkner improved to 2-2 on the year and will host Freed-Hardeman (Ten.) at 1 p.m. followed by Point (Ga.) at 3 in Invitational action Saturday afternoon.
