AUM’s Carter nabs SSAC baseball’s Pitcher of the Week

After picking up a pair of saves against two top-10 ranked opponents, Auburn Montgomery junior closer Jed Carter was selected the first Southern States Athletic Conference’s Baseball Pitcher of the Week for the 2016 season Monday.

In his only appearances of the week, Carter needed just 26 pitches to preserve victories for the Warhawks against No. 3 Faulkner and No. 7 Lindsey Wilson. He did not allow a base runner and struck out three in the two outings.

Carter, a native of Tallassee, Ala., picked up his fourth save of the season against the Eagles in AUM’s second game of its round-robin tournament this weekend. He struck out all three hitters in the seventh inning in the Warhawks’ 6-3 win. He also closed out the final game of the tournament, a 4-3 win against the Blue Raiders.

On the season, Carter is 1-0 with five saves in six appearances. He has allowed just one hit in eight innings, striking out 16 and walking only three. Opponents are hitting just .040 on the year. His five saves currently lead the SSAC and the NAIA.

Carter and the Warhawks will return to action Friday, Feb. 26, when they travel to Talladega College for a 1 p.m. tilt.
