Lost Phone App May Have Led to Shooting Death

Smart phones frequently have Apps to track the phone if it is stolen. But using the App may have caused the death of a man near Birmingham.
FAIRFIELD, Ala. (AP) – Police are investigating a deadly shooting in Fairfield.

Fairfield Police Chief Leon Davis tells local media that a 23-year-old man was shot twice in the chest Sunday evening outside a church. The man was taken to UAB Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

After the shooting, nearby Miles College was put on lockdown as a precaution, but Davis says no students were involved. The lockdown was lifted late Sunday night.

Davis says police believe the victim was shot after he used an app to track his iPhone, which had been stolen out of his car.

No arrests have been made yet.
