Gov. Bentley Awards Grant to Help Fight Drugs in West Alabama
Gov. Robert Bentley has awarded a $50,000 grant to assist a law enforcement unit’s efforts against illegal drugs in three west Alabama counties.
The grant to the Marengo County Commission will assist the 17th Judicial Circuit Drug Task Force in its efforts to investigate, arrest drug offenders and prosecute drug cases in Greene, Marengo and Sumter counties.
“The presence of illegal drugs in a community leads to increased criminal activity,” Bentley said. “I commend the work of this unit in making this area safer for families.”
The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is administering the grant from funds made available to the state by the U.S. Department of Justice. ADECA administers a wide range of programs that support law enforcement, economic development, water resource management, energy conservation and recreation.
Bentley notified Fred Armstead, chairman of the County Commission, that the grant had been approved.
