Police Chase Ends with Suspect Shot

AP_0008310799Authorities have identified a Georgia man who was shot by a deputy after he fled police and brandished a firearm during a chase in Alabama.

Henry County Sheriff Will Maddox told local news media Friday that Alex Tivias Green faces charges of drug trafficking and reckless endangerment after his release from Southeast Alabama Medical Center.

Abbeville Police Chief Noel Vanlandingham says the chase began around 2:30 p.m. Thursday when Green refused to pull over for police. Police say he threw drugs out of his window during the pursuit.

Vanlandingham says Green fled his vehicle and pulled a gun on police. He says a Henry County Sheriff’s deputy then shot him.

Maddox says the officer has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation of the shooting, as per department policy.
