Tuskegee men & women to open SIAC Hoops Tourney

ATLANTA, Ga. (goldentigersports.com) —  The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) released the brackets for the upcoming basketball tournaments at Bill Harris Arena, with both Tuskegee University programs hitting the floor Monday night.

The Tuskegee (5-20) women hit the floor first, facing Miles (15-12) for the third time this season and in the opening round. The Tigerettes, the seventh seed from the West Division, have fallen both times they have faced the second-seeded Lady Golden Bears – including a 67-53 loss on the same floor they will face each other on Monday night. The Tigerettes were led in the last contest by Aryana Jackson with 21 points, while Rachel Brownlee added 16 points – 12 of those coming in the first half.

In the first meeting between the two, Miles defated Tuskegee 51-32 at Chappie James Arena with Brownlee scoring 14 points for the Tigerettes – the only player in double figures for Tuskegee.

The winner of the contest will advance to Thursday at 1:00 pm to face the winner of Claflin (third seed in the East) or LeMoyne-Owen (sixth seed in the West).

The women tip off at 7:00 pm at Bill Harris Arena.

Meanwhile, the Tuskegee (13-12) men enter the tournament as the fifth seed in the West Division and they will face Clark Atlanta (9-19) – the fourth seed from the East Division. The two have met just one time this season, with Tuskegee claiming an 84-72 win back on February 8 at Chappie James Arena. In that contest, Austin Cherry came off the bench to score 26 points en route to winning the co-Player of the Week award with Clark Atlanta’s Tim Sanders – who finished the game with 17 points.

In that same contest, freshman James Eads left the game just five minutes into the contest with an illness. Daniel Roach picked up the scoring for the Golden Tigers as he poured in 15 points, while James Vinson added 11 off the bench and Elijah McMillian added 10 for Tuskegee.

The winner of the game will face West Division champion Stillman in the second round on Wednesday night, with tip set for 7:45 pm.

The game will tip off at 9:15 pm Monday night.
