Tuskegee preps for Clark Atlanta in SIAC tourney opener
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (goldentigersports.com) —- The last game of the first session pits the fourth seed from the East Division against the fifth seed from the West Division at 9:15 pm on Monday night, and the game will be a rematch of a game that took place at Chappie James Arena in early February between Clark Atlanta and Tuskegee.
Tuskegee (13-12) looks to end a modest two-game losing streak in which they fell to Stillman and Miles last week against a team they beat 84-72 just three weeks ago. In that contest, freshman Austin Cherry came off the bench to score 26 points en route to earning co-Player of the Week in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
Daniel Roach scored 15 and James Vinson 11 off the bench, while Elijah McMillan added 10 in the win. Freshman, and leading scorer, James Eads played just five minutes in the game due to an illness.
Seniors Camden Foster and Kevin May are nearing milestones, and will try to get closer to those milestones against Clark Atlanta (9-19). Foster reached 200 assists earlier this week, and is 20 points shy of 900 and five rebounds shy of 600 for his career. Meanwhile, May is one point shy of 800 for his career and 16 assists shy of 400 for his career.
The Golden Tigers continue to be among the nation’s leaders in defense as they are allowing just 65.8 points per game. They lead the conference in that category and are currently tied for 10th in the country.
Eads leads the team in scoring at 11.1 points per game, while Foster is averaging 10.2 points per game and a team-leading 6.3 rebounds per game this season. McMillan is averaging 10.3 points and 5.6 rebounds per game (11.1 points per game during conference play).
Tuskegee will have to contend with Tim Sanders, who is averaging 14.0 points per game and 4.1 assists per game for Clark Atlanta. Meanwhile, Damien Enoch is averaging 4.8 rebounds and 0.6 blocks per game for the Panthers.
The winner of the contest advances to the quarterfinals to face West Division champion, and overall top seed, Stillman on Wednesday night.
