Auburn equestrian trio earn SEC monthly honors
AUBURN, Ala. (auburntigers.com) – Senior Elizabeth Benson, senior Hannah Loseke and sophomore Alexa Rivard were recognized by the Southeastern Conference Wednesday for their performances in the month of February and were awarded Rider of the Month honors in their respective disciplines.
Benson earned her conference honor in Equitation on the Flat after posting a pair of SEC victories in February. With an 85-80 win at No. 2 Georgia and a 96-75 victory this past weekend vs. No. 9 South Carolina, Benson averaged a 90.5 and a win margin of 13 points for the Tigers. Her 96 against the Gamecocks was a high on the day, giving her MOP honors. Also, her win against South Carolina marked the 39th of career, breaking the Auburn career wins record in the event.
Loseke was honored as co-SEC Rider of the Month in Horsemanship following a pair of victories against Georgia and South Carolina. Her score of 77 against the Bulldogs was the high score of the event and she was awarded MOP honors for her performance. Loseke, of Kearney, Neb., picked up a 74.5-72.5 win against the Gamecocks and her total was the second-highest score of the day.
Rivard, of Suwanne, Ga., was recognized for her efforts in Reining as she went 2-0 in the month of February. After earning a 67-66 win at Georgia, she totaled 73 points in her victory over South Carolina at home last week. Rivard’s points total against the Gamecocks was the high score in the event.
The Tigers return to the Auburn University Horse Center Saturday, March 5, for another SEC match-up, hosting No. 3 Texas A&M at 1 p.m. CT. The meet will also serve as the team’s Senior Day meet.
