AUM baseball sweeps double header from Point University
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (aumathletics.com) — The No. 13 Auburn Montgomery baseball team swept its non-conference doubleheader against Point University Tuesday, taking the opener 5-1 and the nightcap 7-1.
NOTES
• With the two wins, the Warhawks now stand at 17-5 on the season.
• The Skyhawks fell to 7-12 overall.
GAME 1 STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Blake Grill was 1-for-1 with a double, two runs batted in and two walks.
• Brandon Pooler finished 2-for-4 with a run scored.
• Richard Nason (1-1) picked up the win with two innings of three-hit relief. He struck out one and allowed one run.
• Seth Arroyo tossed three scoreless innings to start the game, allowing just three hits and a walk, while striking out one.
• David Carter and Chase Johnson each threw a scoreless inning in relief of Nason.
GAME 1 HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Warhawks scored twice in the first inning, when both Cody Rush and Jack Folmar scored on wild pitches by Sahir Fersobe (1-1).
• AUM added three more runs in the bottom of the second inning, with Grill delivering the big blow, a bases-loaded two-run double. Trey Matherson started the rally when he reached on a throwing error, before Pooler singled and Houston Davenport walked. Dalton Kelley upped the AUM lead to 3-0 with a sacrifice fly, before Jack Folmar walked. Grill followed with a double down the right field line to extend the Warhawks’ lead to 5-0.
• The Skyhawks avoided the shutout with a run in the fifth inning, when Bryce Jay scored Omar Smith with a groundout.
GAME 2 STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Cole Goodwin allowed just one hit and struck out five in three innings of work to start game two.
• Josh Dewrell (1-0) earned the victory after throwing two innings of relief. He scattered two hits and struck out one, allowing just an unearned run.
• Brady Eldrige worked around two hits to strike out the side in the sixth inning.
• Clay Gidley made his season debut for the Warhawks, throwing a perfect seventh inning.
• Rush was 1-for-2 with a walk, run scored and two RBIs.
• Kelley scored two times in the victory.
• Payne Kosobucki threw two perfect innings for the Skyhawks, striking out three to start the game.
• Taylor Harper and Blake Lorow had two hits each for Point.
GAME 2 HOW IT HAPPENED
• Point took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning, when Harper scored on a throwing error. Harper and Lorow each picked up hits in the inning.
• The Warhawks rallied to tie the score in the bottom of the fourth, leaving the bases loaded in the process. Kelley started the rally when he reached first following a strikeout after a wild pitch by Jesse Ford. Kelley later stole second and moved to third on a fielder’s choice by Folmar, before scoring on an infield single by Brandon Davis.
• AUM erupted for six runs in the bottom of the fifth inning off reliever Ty Gallihar (0-1), despite recording just one hit. Gallihar issued three walks, hit a batter and uncorked four wild pitches, while also being hurt by a potential inning-ending throwing error. Rush delivered the lone hit of the frame, a two-run single.

• The Warhawks will return to action on Friday, March 11, when they open a three-game Southern States Athletic Conference series against the University of Mobile at the AUM Baseball Complex. First pitch of the opener is slated for 6 p.m.
