SAL CRIMEDOWN PICCrime statistics are in for the city of Greenville, comparing the numbers of Part One crimes from 2014 to the numbers from 2015. Part One crimes include violent and property crimes, such as sexual assaults and robberies. The rate decreased nearly 13 percent, a number Chief Lonzo Ingram attributes to officers receiving help from those who know the city best.

“We have a lot of community involvement,” Ingram explained. “We have a community that wants crime to be down, that works with the police to try to help solve these crimes, and I think that’s the only thing there. That citizens help us solve these crimes.”

The amount of solved crimes also increased, bringing the total up to 77 percent. Chief Investigator Justin Lovvorn said that number shows the investigators unwillingness to let a case go unsolved.

“We all come together in my office and go over the caseload. And any that aren’t solved, we go over and see what else might could be done with it,” Lovvorn said. “And put as many heads together as we can to look at it and find other avenues that we maybe haven’t looked at yet.”

While most of the categories showed a decline in the numbers, some were up, including the number of reported rapes. Ingram said this is not necessarily a bad number, because the more crimes reported means more crimes solved.

Ingram and Lovvorn agree, the statistics would not be so high if the officers did not work together like a team.

“Well we’ve got a really good police department here,” Ingram added. “Everybody works together: patrol, investigators. You know, we all have one common goal, and that is to protect the lives and property of the citizens in this community.”
