Bowling Green snaps ASU’s 5 game win streak

EMERSON, Ga. (bamastatesports.com) – Alabama State baseball saw a five-game winning streak snapped in a 7-4 loss to Bowling Green in the Perfect Game Challenge.

Carlos Ocasio hit his third home run of the season, had two hits and drove in three runs for the Hornets (6-6), who fell victim to a five-run sixth that proved to be the difference in the game.

“I thought we needed to make better adjustments at the plate,” Alabama State head coach Mervyl Melendez said. “We had one bad inning on the mound, but overall I thought we pitched well.”

In the first inning, Diandre Amion walked with one out, and moved to second on an Ocasio single to right field. Dillon Cooper’s single to center scored Amion to give the Hornets a 1-0 lead.

The Hornets took a 2-1 lead in the fifth on a bases-loaded hit by pitch to Ocasio, scoring Oscar Prioleau who walked.

After the big inning by Bowling Green (5-5) and an additional run by the Falcons in the seventh, Ocasio’s two-run homer in the eighth scored pinch-hitter Edgardo Rivera, who walked to lead off the inning.

The Hornets complete the two-game series against Bowling Green Wednesday at 2 p.m.
