Greenville Schools Placed on Lockdown
Around 8:07 a.m. this morning, Greenville Elementary School received an anonymous phone call stating that a specific person was bringing a gun to the school or the board of education.
Greenville Elementary, WO Parmer, Greenville Middle School, and the board of education went into lockdown.
Officers arrived at the schools and the board of education in order to locate the person who was said to be in possession of a gun. Investigator Capt. Lovvorn was able to contact the person in question by phone and determined his location.
The person was then confronted by law enforcement and after interviewing the person of interest and searching his property, it was determined that there was no immediate threat. The schools were then taken off of lockdown.
The investigation continued and Capt. Lovvorn was able to track down the owner of the phone number that called in to the school. That subject was located and taken to the police department for an interview. The subject was questioned about his justification for making such a call.
Once the investigation was complete, it was determined that the person who made the claim about a person bringing a gun on campus was unsubstantiated.
Jonathan Paul Smith, a 32 year old white male from Greenville, was then placed under arrest for the charge of Falsely Reporting an Incident. Mr. Smith was then transported to the Butler County jail where he has a $3,000 bond.
