Miles & Tuskegee softball series changes for weather
TUSKEGEE, Ala. (goldentigersports.com) — While Mother Nature is forcing cancellations across the southeastern portion of the United States, it has forced a time change in this weekend’s series with Miles College.
Tuskegee (2-20, 2-1 SIAC) and Miles (7-15, 6-0 SIAC) were set to battle for the West Division lead with a single game on Friday and a doubleheader on Saturday; however Mother Nature had other plans and forced time changes in the series.
The series, which will be played at Parker High School, will feature a doubleheader on Friday afternoon beginning at 2 pm and the Saturday time will be determined following the doubleheader on Friday after monitoring the weather.
The Lady Golden Tigers enter the weekend series fresh off a series win over Stillman in which they scored 22 runs over three games, including a 14-1 victory in game two. The other two games in the series were decided by one run, with Stillman winning the first game and Tuskegee pulling out a victory in 10 innings in the finale.
Neither Tuskegee, nor Miles, has had an easy path this season as they have both faced tough competition prior to their conference start. The two have faced numerous teams ranked in the top 25 including North Alabama and Georgia College. They have faced common opponents in West Alabama, West Florida and Youn Harris to name a few.
Tuskegee is led by freshman Sharde Thomas, the reigning SIAC Player of the Week, who is hitting .432 this season in 14 games. The freshman has collected a team-high 19 hits, including three doubles and a triple; all while scoring nine runs and stealing four bases.
Fellow freshman Kaylin Finch is second on the team in hitting at .302 and is tied for the team lead in homeruns with two (tied with Jamaica Williams), while Roneshia Rudolph is hitting .281 with nine hits in 18 games.
On the mound, senior Karisa Foye is 1-3 with a 4.15 earned run average, picking up her first win in game of the Stillman series. She has appeared in five games and started three, allowing 27 hits through 27 innings pitched. Toni Beth Garner (1-6) picked up the win against Stillman in the 10-inning finale and has a 6.71 earned run average this season.
Tuskegee and Miles have met just four times since 2014 due to the weather, with the Lady Golden Tigers holding a 3-1 advantage. Tuskegee has won three games since 2014 by a combined score of 18-3, with their only loss coming in 2014 by one run (3-2).
