No. 2 Auburn men’s golf tied for 8th after Seminole Intercollegiate 1st round
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (auburntigers.com) – No. 2 Auburn men’s golf is tied for eighth after the first round of the Seminole Intercollegiate carding a 2-over 290 on Friday at the par 72, 7,172-yard Southwood Golf Course.
The Tigers are eight strokes behind leader, James Madison at 282.
Junior Will Long, who is tied for 10th at 2-under 70, birdied Nos. 1, 3, 6 and 7. Senior Jake Mondy and All-SEC junior Matt Gilchrest, coming off a top-3 finish at the Tiger Invitational, are tied for 33rd at 1-over 73. Mondy, a native of Blacksburg, Va., tallied five birdies for the round on Nos. 2, 4, 6, 14 and 18.
All-SEC senior Michael Johnson also had five birdies, including three-straight on Nos. 14-16, and is tied for 39th at 2-over 74 while All-America sophomore Ben Schlottman is tied for 75th at 9-over 81.
A pair of freshmen, Jacob Solomon and Graysen Huff, are playing as individuals. Solomon is shot back from Long at 1-under 71 and is tied for 12th while Huff is tied for 56th at 4-over 76.
Jacksonville is in second at 4-under 284 followed by host-No. 3 Florida State (285), East Tennessee State (285), Troy (285), No. 25 Penn State (288), VCU (288), Louisville (290), Auburn and Ole Miss (291).
Pennsylvania is 11th at 7-over 295 followed by West Virginia (297), Illinois State (298) and Mercer (302)
Adam Ball of VCU and Adrian Meronk of East Tennessee State share the individual lead at 5-under 67.
