Atmore Prison On Lockdown After Warden And Officer Stabbed

A prison in southern Alabama is on lockdown after violence erupted at the facility late Friday.

Officials say two prison employees, including the warden were stabbed at Holman Correctional Facility just outside of Atmore.

Their injuries are not life-threatening.

Officials say they were stabbed after prisoners tried to take control of one of the dormitories.

After the assaults, inmates gained access to a hallway just outside the housing unit and started a fire.

About 100 inmates were involved in the disturbance.

Those involved have been segregated from the general population.

The prison is secured and will remain on lockdown until the department of corrections finishes its investigation.
