Carnley Receives AUM Army ROTC Athletic Achievement Award

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (aumathletics.com) —- The Auburn Montgomery department of athletics and Lieutenant Colonel Ryan Reid have announced men’s basketball junior Jake Carnley as the seventh recipient of the AUM Army ROTC Athletic Achievement award for the 2015-16 year.

The award is presented to a student-athlete certified for eligibility and involved in a varsity sport that contributes to the team’s success through their individual leadership skills, their commitment to teamwork, their extra effort during practice and their demonstration of sportsmanship.

Additional contributing factors include academic success, character and exemplary community outreach, as well as performance on the field or court during the previous two weeks.

A native of Elba, Ala., Carnley sports a 3.51 GPA, while being a member of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee, and involving himself with the local community. He has represented the men’s basketball program on the committee that discuses how to improve the athletic department. His commitment in the classroom and two his teammates are recognized with his diligence and hard work.

On the court, Carnley started in four games and appeared in 17 for the Warhawks. He scored a career-high nine points against Brewton-Parker on Feb. 25. He also scored eight points against Faulkner on Feb. 13, and finished the year with ten 3-pointers.

“Jake is a true student athlete and a great teammate on and off the court,” head coach Michael Cheaney stated. “He works hard every day in practice, and improves the team with his positive attitude and work ethic.”

The Warhawks finished the season 17-13 to finish above .500 for the second time in as many years.
