Forecast prompts change to ASU, MVSU baseball series
MONTGOMERY, Ala (bamastatesports.com) – The Alabama State baseball team returns to Southwestern Athletic Conference play by hosting Mississippi Valley State in a three-game series beginning Saturday at the Wheeler-Watkins Baseball Complex.
Due to impending rain, the Hornets (10-9 overall, 3-0 SWAC) and Delta Devils (4-10, 2-3) will now play Saturday at 2 p.m., Sunday at 1 p.m. and Monday at 1 p.m. as the games conclude a season-long nine-game homestand.
Alabama State has been streaky during the current stretch of home games, winning the first three games against Northern Kentucky, before losing Sunday’s series finale combined with mid-week losses to Samford and Florida A&M.
CF Carlos Ocasio continues to lead the Hornets at the plate, hitting .359 with five home runs and 20 RBI, all team highs. He has reached based in all 19 games this season, posting eight multi-hit games and seven multi-RBI games. 2B Eriq White has a nine-game hitting streak and has reached base in 16 straight games, hitting .329 on the season with one home run and 14 RBI.
The pitching trio of Joseph Camacho, Tyler Howe and Hunter Camacho is expected to lead the staff this weekend. Camacho, the reigning two-time SWAC Pitcher of the Year, is 2-0 with a paltry 1.29 ERA in four starts with 27 strikeouts to only four walks. He is a remarkable 23-0 in his last 28 starts. Howe (2-2) has a 2.28 ERA with 20 strikeouts to just three walks in four starts. McIntosh is 1-1 with a 4.58 ERA in five appearances with three starts with 22 strikeouts against nine walks.
The Delta Devils won their opening weekend series against Alcorn State before losing a pair of games on Monday to Alabama A&M in a weather-shortened series.
