Auburn’s Ben Schlottman tied for 2nd after Schenkel 1st round

STATESBORO, Ga. (auburntigers.com) – Auburn sophomore All-American Ben Schlottman fired a 6-under 66 and is tied for second after the Schenkel Invitational first round at the par 72, 6,947-yard Forest Heights Country Club on Friday.

Schlottman, playing as an individual, carded five birdies on the first nine and three on the back and is two shots back in a four-way tie for second behind leader Davis Womble of Wake Forest.

The fourth-ranked Tigers had a 4-under 284 and are in 12th. No. 10 Wake Forest is in first at 18-under 270 while No. 15 Vanderbilt and Georgia State are tied for second at 14-under 274.

All-SEC senior Michael Johnson is tied for eighth at 4-under 68. The Birmingham, Ala., native carded five birdies for the day on Nos. 3, 5, 15, 17 and 18. Freshman Jacob Solomon is tied for 36th at 1-under 71, senior Jake Mondy is tied for 46th at even par, junior Will Long is tied for 53rd at 1-over 73 and All-SEC junior Matt Gilchrest is tied for 65th at 3-over 75.

No. 19 North Carolina and Iowa are tied for fourth at 9-under 279 followed by Georgia Southern (280), North Florida (280), College of Charleston (280), Kentucky (283), North Carolina State (283), UAB (283), Auburn, Harvard (287) and Boston College (297).

The Tigers tee off the Schenkel Invitational second round on Saturday at 8 am CT with NC State and UAB.
