Tuskegee’s Finch hurls perfect game

JASPER, Ala. (goldentigersports.com) —  Perfection is defined as the condition, state, or quality of being free or as free as possible from all flaws and defects.

Beside that definition could be a picture of Tuskegee University freshman pitcher Kaylin Finch who sought perfection on Friday and came away with a perfect game in an 18-0 victory over Clark Atlanta in the SIAC Crossover.

The freshman pitched a complete game (five innings), not allowing a single batter to reach base and recorded a pair of strikeouts in the victory. It is the first no-hitter and the first perfect game of her career.

While Clark Atlanta went without a hit, eight Lady Golden Tigers picked up a hit with five players picking up multiple hits. Freshman Roneshia Rudolph had a career day at the plate with a pair of doubles and seven runs batted in. The freshman cleared the bases two times with a bases-loaded double in the first and a bases-loaded double in the fourth.

Freshman Sharde Thomas and seniors Cari Driver, Kenyah Smith and Haley Plato each picked up multiple hits in the victory. Although Rudolph posted a career-high in RBI, Chante Warner (three runs, two RBI), Jasmine Howard (two RBI) and Plato (three RBI) each added multiple RBI in the victory.

Tuskegee finished the day with a pair of extra-base hits and three stolen bases.

Tuskegee (5-20, 5-1 SIAC), winner four consecutive conference games, jumped ahead of Clark Atlanta (6-15, 3-6 SIAC) with five runs in the first inning. They also ended the game with a big inning, scoring six runs in the fifth to end the game on the run-rule.

The Lady Golden Tigers return to action later in the day on Friday, facing Albany State at 2 pm.
