ASU Players Receive SWAC Player of Week Honors
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (swac.org) – Alabama State’s Diandre Amion and Tyler Howe have been recognized by the Southwestern Athletic Conference as Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week for their exceptional performance in competition, March 14-20.

Amion hit .421 (8-for-19) in five games last week, including a double, a triple with three home runs. He collected 11 RBI and scored eight runs, putting together a .450 on-base and 1.053 slugging percentages. He had three multi-hit games (two 2-hit, one three-hit) and three multi-RBI games (two 2-RBI, one 6-RBI), as well as homered in three straight games, including grand-slam in game one Saturday vs. Miss. Valley St. For his rookie season, Amion is hitting .344 avg. with three home runs and 16 RBI.

Howe threw his second career complete game and first career shutout in a 3-0 victory over Miss. Valley State. In the win, he allowed three singles and struck out a season-high 10 hitters in facing only four batters over the minimum. Howe retired final nine hitters in a row in earning third straight win. For the season, Howe is 3-2 in five starts with a 1.65 ERA in 32.2 innings pitched. He has allowed 26 hits, 11 runs (six earned), three walks and 30 strikeouts.
