Mauldin whiffs 17 in 16-0 shut out of Lane

JACKSON, Tenn. (goldentigersports.com) — The Tuskegee University baseball team pounded out 16 hits and Joseph Mauldin struck out a career-high 17 against Lane College en route to completing the sweep on the road with a 16-0 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference victory Sunday afternoon.

Mauldin (2-4) pitched his second complete game of the season en route to the victory. He scattered seven hits over seven innings, recorded the career-high in strikeouts and did not allow a walk. The junior recorded all but four outs by strikeout.

He got some early help as the Golden Tigers scored a pair of runs in each the first and second inning that was enough for the victory, however, the lead was stretched out when Tuskegee scored 10 runs in the fourth inning.

Samuel Glickman and Ricky Green each finished with three hits, with Glickman scored two runs and Green adding two runs and two RBI. Evan Kearse, Ryan Green and Clinton Crews each added a pair of hits in the win.

Crews and Jalen Luter each drove in three runs in the victory for the Golden Tigers, who finished with eight extra base hits and three stolen bases.

The Golden Tigers return to play Wednesday on the road facing Selma University. The game is set to begin at 12 noon. They are off this weekend in conference play, and return to conference play April 2 against Stillman College on the road.
