Record-Breaking Weekend Lands Hannah Day Sun Belt Player of the Week Honors
TROY, Ala (troytrojans.com) – After putting up astronomical numbers this past week, Troy’s Hannah Day has been named the Sun Belt Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
Day hit .812 (13-for-16) with 20 RBIs, six home runs and three doubles over a four-game stretch last week. She slugged 2.125, posted an .842 on-base percentage and scored 12 runs as the Trojans won all four contests to improve to 21-7 on the season.
The Crestview, Fla., native went 5-for-5 with three home runs, two doubles and nine RBIs in game two of the series at Appalachian State. At the time, she tied the NCAA record for total bases in a game with 16 and set or tied Troy single-game records for home runs and RBIs.
The senior followed that performance with a 4-for-6 game in the series finale with two home runs, a double, a single and six RBIs. In the opening game of the Sun Belt series, Day went 3-for-3 with a home run and four runs scored.
Day currently leads the country with 48 RBIs, ranks third nationally with 13 home runs and her .915 slugging percentage is 10th best in the country. If the season ended today, her slugging percentage would establish a new Troy single-season record by 120 points. Day’s 13 home runs already rank as the third most in a season in Troy history, while her 48 RBIs rank as the fifth most.
The Trojans return to the diamond on Friday to continue conference play against UL Lafayette in a doubleheader at the Troy Softball Complex. The first pitch is set for 3 p.m. on Friday and 12 p.m. for the final game of the series on Saturday.
