Troy Baseball Hosts Alabama A&M on Trivia Tuesday
TROY, Ala (troytrojans.com) – Troy baseball returns to the diamond to host Alabama A&M for “Trivia Tuesday” on Tuesday night at Riddle-Pace Field. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
Troy (12-9) is coming off its first Sun Belt series win of the Mark Smartt era and took two out of three on the road at Georgia Southern. Grant Bennett helped lead the Trojans to a 2-1 victory as he pitched eight innings and only allowed one run Friday night. The Trojans had 12 hits in the series finale on Sunday and took advantage of five errors in an 8-4 comeback win.
Matt Sanders leads the team with a .370 batting average. He also has two doubles on the year and is slugging .407 with five RBIs. Trevor Davis and Brandon Lockridge have 21 hits each, which are tied for the most hits on the team.
Davis and Peyton Fuller lead the squad in mid-week games. Both players have three RBIs and one double each. Davis is batting .313, while Fuller has a .308 batting average.
Troy will send Cory Gill on the mound Tuesday night. The freshman has a 1.08 ERA and a mid-week tops 11 strikeouts in 8.1 innings when pitching during mid-week games.
Alabama A&M (5-16) lost the series against Alcorn State after winning the first game 12-2, but dropped the next two and were outscored 31-17. Nolan Ramsey leads the Bulldogs offensively with a .351 batting average, five doubles and five stolen bases. The power threat for Alabama A&M is Dylan Payne, who has four home runs on the season and 13 RBIs, both tops on the team.
Troy has never lost to Alabama A&M and holds a 12-0 series lead. 11 of the 12 wins have been at Riddle-Pace Field, four of them came last season. The Trojans swept the Bulldogs in a four-game series in 2015 and outscored them 24-5.
