Diamond Tigers bound for Selma
TUSKEGEE, Ala. (goldentigersports.com) — The Tuskegee University baseball will play their final game for 10 days, putting their three game win streak on the line Wednesday afternoon in Selma, facing the Bulldogs of Selma University in a twin bill.
The first game is set to start at 12 noon, with the second game starting 30 minutes after the conclusion of the opener.
Tuskegee (6-15, 4-2 SIAC) comes into the doubleheader having won three straight games over Lane College in conference action, outscoring the Dragons 36-6 in the series. The series was highlighted by Joseph Mauldin striking out 17 batters on Sunday, the second highest total across all three divisions of NCAA baseball this season. For his efforts, he was named the SIAC Pitcher of the Week.
The Golden Tigers also have this week’s SIAC Player of the Week in Ricky Green, who currently leads the team in hitting at .392 and won the award this week hitting over .600 in the three-game series. Several players raised their averages significantly over the weekend including Ryan Green, who raised his average 60 points to .310 with seven runs batted in. Christian Marshall raised his average 30 points to .318, and Clinton Crews raised his average 21 points in the three-game series with Lane.
The meeting on Wednesday will be the second time the two teams have met, as they split a doubleheader at Paterson Field back on February 10. It will also mark just the fifth mid-week date for the Golden Tigers this season – with the others begin against Columbus State and Montevallo – and will be the first of two trips to Selma this season for Tuskegee.
In their first two meetings at Paterson Field, Daniel Croom earned the win in game one with two innings of scoreless relief; while in game two Mauldin went 2-for-4 at the plate in the loss.
Tuskegee will be off until they travel to Tuscaloosa to face Stillman College on April 2 and 3 following the game this week.
