Softball Tigers prep for elusive home game Wednesday vs UWG
TUSKEGEE, Ala. (goldentigersports.com) — For the first time in three weeks, the Tuskegee University softball team returns home and putting their six-game win streak on the line against the University of West Georgia in a doubleheader Wednesday afternoon.
First pitch is set for 1 pm on the campus of Tuskegee University.
Tuskegee (8-20, 8-1 SIAC) last played at home on February 28 against Flagler, and have played 26 of their 28 games away from home this season. However, with 21 games remaining on the schedule, 15 of those will be played at home to close out the regular season. The Lady Golden Tigers come into the doubleheader on Wednesday having outscored their opponents 57-8, and in their eight conference games they have outscored their opponents 78-16 in the nine games.
The Lady Golden Tigers and West Georgia met twice previously on February 17 in Carrollton, a game originally scheduled to be played in Tuskegee. The Lady Wolves were able to sweep the doubleheader from Tuskegee, winning the first game 7-4 and the second 3-2.
Sharde Thomas leads the team in hitting with a .467 average, including hitting .563 in five games at the SIAC Crossover last week. She scored seven runs and knocked in four, while stealing three bases over the past week. Fellow freshman Roneshia Rudolph posted a career-high seven runs batted in against Clark Atlanta, while freshman Kayla Finch pitched a perfect game against the Lady Panthers.
Jamaica Williams leads the team in homeruns with three, after hitting one during the SIAC Crossover. She also leads the team in RBI with 16, while Finch has 15, Chate Warner 11 and Rudolph 10 for the Lady Golden Tigers.
Finch (3-6) leads the team in wins with three, picking up all three of those in the Crossover, along with a save against Albany State. She has a 5.25 earned run average and eight complete games this season. Senior Karisa Foye (1-3) leads the team in earned run average at 4.15 this season with two complete games, but missed the action last week at the SIAC Crossover.
Following the contests against West Georgia, the Lady Golden Tigers will remain at home in conference action this weekend against Kentucky State.
