Warhawk softball swipes pair from Blue Mountain
BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. (aumathletics.com) —- The top-ranked Auburn Montgomery softball team swept the SSAC double header against Blue Mountain College 8-0 after six innings in game one, and 9-0 after six innings in game two.
NOTES
• The Warhawks now stand at 27-2 (5-1) on the season.
• Blue Mountain fell to 11-17 (1-5) overall.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Senior Jennifer Jenkins paced the Warhawks, finishing the day 4-for-7 with two doubles, three RBIs and three runs scored.
• Sophomore Amy Persinger finished the day 3-for-8 with a homerun and a double. She added a team-high four RBIs with two runs scored.
• Senior Katie Brinkman finished the second game 2-2 with a homerun, an RBI, and three runs scored with a walk. She picked up a run scored and a walk in the first game as well.
• Senior Taylor Powell improved to 16-1 on the year, as she hurled five innings of no-hit softball in the first game. She struck out nine in the game. Powell hit in the first game, and finished 2-for-3 with a homerun, three RBIs and a run scored.
• Junior Rachel Ragland improved to 10-0 on the year as she pitched a complete-game shutout in game number two, which lasted six innings. She picked up five strikeouts on just five hits. At the plate, Ragland picked up a double and scored four runs on the day with a stolen base.
• Miah Edmonds led the way for Blue Mountain finishing 2-for-2 in the second game with a double.
GAME 1 HOW IT HAPPENED
• AUM scored first in the top of the first inning. Powell launched her third homerun of the season to give AUM an early 1-0 lead. Dishman followed with a double, and was plated on a single from Hale for the 2-0 advantage.
• AUM added three more runs in the top of the second. Jenkins singled to right, which scored Angulo, and Powell added two more RBIs on a single to center that plated Jenkins and Ragland to give AUM a 5-0 lead.
• Neither team scored in the middle innings, until AUM added its final three runs in the top of the sixth. Brinkman came home on a Ragland double, and Jenkins picked up a double to plate Ragland. Jenkins ended up scoring on the play after a missed catch to make the score 8-0.
• Krueger came in to replace Powell in the circle in the bottom of the sixth, where Blue Mountain picked up its only hit on a bunt single. She retired the next three Toppers to give the Warhawks the 8-0 victory after six innings of play.
GAME 2 HOW IT HAPPENED
• AUM once again got on the board first in the top of the first inning. Persinger doubled to left, which scored Ragland and Jenkins with one out on the board. Hale then singled to right, which plated Persinger to give AUM the early 3-0 lead.
• Blue Mountain picked up two hits in the bottom of the frame, but were unable to score.
• AUM added two additional runs in the top of the second as Jenkins picked up her second double of the day that scored Brinkman and advanced Ragland to third. Ragland eventually came around to score on a ground out from Dishman, which gave AUM a 5-0 lead after two innings.
• Brinkman picked up her second homerun of the season in the top of the fourth to extend the Warhawk lead to six.
• AUM plated its final three runs of the game in the sixth once again. Dishman singled to score Brinkman, and Persinger launched her seventh homerun of the season to give AUM the 9-0 advantage.
• Blue Mountain led the sixth with a double from Edmonds. Ragland stranded the runner at third by forcing a ground ball, and striking out the last two batters to give AUM the 9-0 win after six innings and the twin bill sweep.

• The Warhawks will return to action on Tuesday, March 29 when they host Talladega College for a doubleheader with the first game at 2 p.m.
