AUM baseball slips to fifth in NAIA Coaches’ Top 25
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (aumathletics.com) — The Auburn Montgomery baseball team slipped to fifth in the third regular-season NAIA Coaches’ Top 25 poll, the national office announced Tuesday.
The Warhawks earned 420 points in the poll, holding off No. 6 USC Beaufort by eight points. AUM entered the week with a 26-8 record, including a 10-2 mark in Southern States Athletic Conference play.
Georgia Gwinnett took over the top spot in the poll after earning 495 points and 14-of-17 first-place votes. The Grizzlies moved up two spots in the standings and are 34-1 on the year. Lewis-Clark State (Idaho) maintained its hold on the second position, earning 477 points and one first-place nod, while Faulkner fell two spots to third and trailed by only six points. The Eagles also claimed a pair of first-place votes. Bellevue (Neb.) alternated spots with the Warhawks, moving up one position and earned 451 points.
Vanguard (Calif.) moved up a poll-high three spots, while Keiser (Fla.) tumbled eight positions. The SSAC, along with the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference and The Sun Conference, had a nation-high three teams ranked. Joining the Warhawks and the Eagles was Middle Georgia State University at No. 18. Conference members Mobile and William Carey were among the others receiving votes.
The Warhawks will return to action Wednesday, March 30, when they travel to Columbus, Ga., to challenge NCAA Division II foe Columbus State. First pitch is slated for 5 p.m.
