A piece of the historic gin shop property in Prattville will soon be getting new life.

The old Continental Eagle administration building will soon house Prattville’s police, fire, EMA and IT all under the same roof. When the company moved out a few years ago, there was concern about what would happen to this historic property that’s the backdrop of downtown and the city’s history.

The Historic Prattville Redevelopment Authority bought the 40 acres. They are paying almost $2.4 million to fix it up and then the board will lease it to the city.

Mark Thompson, Prattville chief of police said, “We have some negative comments about some people don’t think we need this building. But the way we’ve done things doesn’t work anymore. We need to progress as Prattville grows and this building is a big part of it.”

The departments are expected to move in by September. There are plans in the works to add shops and apartments on a portion of the remaining property.
