Warhawks put up 42 on Talladega, taking Tuesday twin bill

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (aumathletics.com)  —- The top-ranked Auburn Montgomery softball team swept the non-conference double header against Talladega College 21-0 after five innings in game one, and 21-1 after five innings in game two.

NOTES
• The Warhawks now stand at 29-2 on the season.
• The Tornadoes fell to 6-23 overall.

STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Senior Jennifer Jenkins finished the day 4-for-5 with two doubles. She added five runs scored and an RBI.
• Sophomore Amy Persinger hit her eighth homerun of the season in the first game, and finished the day 2-for-6 with four RBIs, five runs scored and two walks.
• Junior Victoria Creamer finished the first game a perfect 2-for-2 with two doubles, two RBIs and a run scored.
• Junior Sydney Dishman picked up her fifth homerun of the year in the second game, and finished 2-for-4 with three runs scored and four RBIs in game two.
• Sophomore Rose Schmidt added her first homerun of the year in the second game, along with a triple and four RBIs.
• Sophomore Catie Burleson also picked up her first career homerun in the first game. .
• Senior Taylor Powell improved to 17-1 on the year, as she hurled four innings of hitless softball in the first game. She struck out six in the appearance, and did not allow a base runner, as she retired 12 consecutive batters. Powell also hit in the first game, and finished 2-for-3 with a homerun, four RBIs and two runs scored.
• Junior Rachel Ragland improved to 11-0 on the year as she pitched the first three innings in game number two, which lasted five innings. She picked up five strikeouts on no hits and one walk with no runs.
• Freshman Allie Krueger pitched a total of three innings on the day, and gave up only three hits with one run, while striking out five. She also hit, and finished 2-for-3 at the plate with a double, two runs scored and an RBI.
• Darian Brown, Rachel Ross and Katelyn Hester each added a hit for Talladega on the day.

GAME 1 HOW IT HAPPENED
• The score remained tied 0-0 until AUM scored four in the bottom of the third. Three of those runs came from a Powell homerun to center.
• AUM added a school-record 17 runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Both Persinger and Burleson picked up homeruns in the inning.
• Krueger came in to replace Powell in the circle, and struck out the final two batters to hand AUM the 21-0 victory over Talladega in game one.

GAME 2 HOW IT HAPPENED
• AUM scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning for an early 3-0 lead. Jenkins picked up an RBI double, and Dishman added a two-run homerun in the inning.
• AUM added eight runs in the bottom of the second inning.
• After a scoreless top of the third, the Warhawks added 10 runs in the bottom of the third. Schmidt picked up her first homerun of the season on a three-run blast to center.
• Neither team scored in the fourth, but Talladega picked up a run in the top of the fifth. Krueger recorded the final two outs in a strikeout and a fly ball to Ragland ended game to, and gave AUM the 21-1 victory and twin bill sweep.

UP NEXT
• The Warhawks will return to action on Friday, April 1 when they travel to face Bethel University for a Southern States Athletic Conference doubleheader with the first game at 1 p.m.
