Hornets stung by Jacksonville State 7-1

JACKSONVILLE, Ala (bamastatesports.com)  – The Alabama State baseball team lost 7-1 at Jacksonville State Wednesday night at Rudy Abbott Field.

Trailing 2-0 after two innings, the Hornets (16-12) scored their lone run in the third. Oscar Prioleau was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Yamil Pagan. Eric White then beat out a bunt single as Prioleau scored on a throwing error to the cut ASU deficit to 2-1.

However, the Gamecocks (17-7) added two runs in the third and one in the fourth to extend to a 5-1 lead, and ended the scoring with two eighth-inning runs.

Pagan, Dillon Cooper, Chris Biocic, and Ray Hernandez each had hits for the Hornets. The pitching staff got plenty of work, as 12 pitchers faced at least one batter in the contest, as Alabama State’s four-game winning streak against Jacksonville State ended.

Alabama State returns to action Friday in game of a three-game Southwestern Athletic Conference series at Alabama A&M. Game times Friday and Saturday are at 2 p.m., with Sunday’s nightcap at 1 p.m.
