Columbus State drops 5th ranked AUM 12-4
COLUMBUS, Ga. (aumathletics.com) — The No. 5 Auburn Montgomery baseball team dropped a non-conference midweek contest at NCAA Division II Columbus State Wednesday, falling 12-4 to the Cougars at Burger King Stadium.
NOTES
• With the loss, the Warhawks fell to 26-9 on the year and have dropped three of their last four games. AUM opened the month of March 14-1.
• Columbus State improved to 23-10 overall.
• The Warhawks and Cougars split their two games this season, with each team winning on their home field. AUM won 3-1 in Montgomery on March 1.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Mac Seibert finished 3-for-4 with a RBI, run scored and a stolen base.
• John-Mark Cosby also had three hits and scored a run.
• Cody Rush had two hits and a run scored.
• Chase Johnson threw a team-best 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief.
• Jed Carter extended his scoreless innings streak to 20 with a scoreless ninth inning. He struck out two.
• Mike McClellan led the Cougars at the plate with two hits, including a home run, three RBIs and two runs scored.
• Ryan Ihle scored three times, had three hits and drove in two runs.
• Christian Miller and Justin Evans had two RBIs each.
• Sean Miller, Kyle Peals and Kolton Ingram combined to hold the Warhawks scoreless over the last four innings.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• CSU scored twice in the bottom of the first inning, with Ihle and Miller connecting on RBI doubles
• The Warhawks tied the score with two runs of their own in the second, using three hits and a pair of walks to spark the rally. Cosby led off the frame with a single, before Seibert followed with a one-out single. Deric Boone plated Cosby with a two-out hit, pulling AUM to within 2-1. Houston Davenport followed with a walk to load the bases, before Blake Grill worked a four-pitch walk to force home Seibert and tie the game.
• McClellan gave the Cougars the lead for good in the third inning with a two-run homer off Seth Arroyo (1-2).
• CSU used seven hits, only one of which went for extra bases, and a walk to plate six runs in the fourth inning to put the game out of reach. With the six runs, the Cougars up their lead to 10-2.
• The Warhawks scored twice in the top of the fifth inning. Blake Grill and Rush singled to lead off the inning, before Dalton Kelley walked to load the bases. Cosby followed by reaching on catcher’s interference, scoring Grill. Seibert drove in Rush with a one-out single that plated Rush.
• A two-run triple by Evans in the sixth inning plated two runs for the Cougars and provided the final margin.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• Each team committed one error, but neither led to runs.
• The teams combined to strand 20 runners on base, 10 by each team.
• Columbus State turned a pair of double plays in the game.

• The Warhawks will open a three-game Southern States Athletic Conference series against Blue Mountain Friday, April 1, at the AUM Baseball Complex, beginning at 6 p.m.
