Millions of car crashes are caused every year from texting and driving throughout the nation, but officers are trying to cut down on distracted driving.
Beginning April 4th-April 25th officers will be conducting a distracted driving enforcement. The enforcement is a city-wide campaign to cut down on crashes that lead to injuries and death. Officers say almost 25 percent of crashes are caused by cell phone use. They say there are ways to prevent those crashes.
“You can get a bluetooth device if you want to talk on the phone but as far as texting you don’t need to text at all. If you have a text message pull over, if you feel like you need to take care of it right then. Otherwise, just wait until you get where you going,” says Sergeant Adam Pilgreen of the Montgomery Police Department.
Marked and unmarked cars will be used during MPD’s distracted driving enforcement this month.
