Faulkner’s struggles continue in 6-5 loss at Reinhardt
WALESKA, Ga. (faulknereagles.com) – No. 4 Faulkner coughed up a late lead then had the potential tying run gunned down at the plate for the game’s final out in a 6-5 loss to Reinhardt here Tuesday evening.
Two unearned runs and two RBIs by Dennis Morton, including a solo homer, helped the Eagles (30-10) take a 5-2 lead. Still on top 5-3 entering the bottom of the eighth inning, the Faulkner bullpen allowed three Reinhardt runs, the final coming on a wild pitch that gave the hosts a one-run lead.
With two outs and a runner on first in the top of the ninth, the Eagles’ Dario Polanco doubled to right field but a productive relay from the outfield cut down runner at home to end it.
Reinhardt outhit Faulkner 12-9. Three Eagles – Morton, Darrius Jennings and Alexis Cruz – had three hits apiece. River Brannon earned the win for Reinhardt (25-14), while Kurt Lipscomb took the loss for the Eagles.
Faulkner hosts Talladega Wednesday afternoon at 2, culminating “Lamar Harrison Day” at Harrison Field.
