Faulkner pounds Talladega 20-0 on ‘Lamar Harrison Day’
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (faulknereagles.com) – Faulkner blasted six home runs and Ivan Pelaez allowed just two hits in five innings of work as the fourth-ranked Eagles pounded Talladega 20-0 here Tuesday afternoon at Harrison Field.
Prior to the start of the game, Faulkner board member and athletic department benefactor Lamar Harrison threw out the first pitch, concluding the festivities surrounding “Lamar Harrison Day” on campus.
The Eagle hitters honored the man whose name is on the Faulkner baseball facility by coming to life against the Tornadoes, collecting 18 hits in the game that was stopped after seven innings. The 20-run outburst was Faulkner’s second highest of the season.
Nick Cain hit two solo home runs, and Dennis Morton added another. Darrius Jennings had a two-run shot, T.J. Condon a three-run blast and Chase Morris a grand slam, pushing Faulkner’s season home run total to 60. Last year’s team hit 64 all season.
Alexis Cruz, Mario Amaral and Condon all had three hits, with Cruz and Amaral driving in three runs apiece and Condon adding five RBIs. Onix Martinez and Morris each added two hits.
Pelaez improved to 5-1 on the season, striking out four Talladega batters on the day. Miguel Castellanos and Victor Arche each pitched a scoreless inning for the Eagles. Brayan Marques took the loss for the Tornadoes (15-18), falling to 0-3.
Faulkner hosts Martin Methodist this weekend in a three-game Southern States Athletic Conference series at Harrison Field. Friday’s game begins at 6 p.m., with Saturday’s doubleheader set for a 1 p.m. first pitch.
