Tuskegee softball drops pair to West Alabama
TUSKEGEE, Ala. (goldentigersports.com) — The Tuskegee University softball team dropped a doubleheader to the University of West Alabama in non-conference action, dropping the first game 7-3 and the second 11-4 Wednesday afternoon.
Sharde Thomas led the Lady Golden Tigers at the plate, finishing the day 5-for-8 with a double and a pair of runs scored. She went 3-for-4 in the nightcap for Tuskegee. Cari Driver finished the day 2-for-5, while Kenyah Smith finished 3-for-6 on the day in the two games.
Roneshia Rudolph picked up a pair of hits in the final game, while Kaylin Finch went 2-for-3 at the plate in the opener.
Tuskegee had their chances in the opener, heading into the seventh inning tied at 3-all. However, West Alabama was able to add four runs in the inning (all unearned). The Tigers took the lead after a two-out error by Tuskegee, benefitting from the error and getting a three-run homerun by Ashley Stassin.
Kaylin Finch (4-9) suffered the loss in game, battling back after taking a ball off her leg in the fifth inning. She finished with a complete game, allowing seven runs (only two earned) off seven hits with five strikeouts.
In the second game, West Alabama (16-24) used a pair of two-run homeruns from Audrey Diekmann to pull away from Tuskegee. The Lady Golden Tigers finished the day with 11 hits, stranding six runners in the game two loss.
Morgan Burrell (0-3) suffered the loss, working three innings and allowing five runs of off five hits.
Tuskegee returns to action this weekend in a three-game series in Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) play on the road at Lane. The series starts Saturday afternoon at 12 noon.
