Golden Tigers face Miles @ Rickwood in SIAC West Division race
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (goldentigersports.com) — The Tuskegee University baseball team finds itself in a battle for the top four spots in the SIAC West Division with four conference series remaining, beginning this weekend with a three-game set against Miles College at Rickwood Field.
First pitch in the series is scheduled for 12 noon on Saturday with a doubleheader, and concludes at 1 pm on Sunday afternoon.
Tuskegee (9-17, 5-4) is currently third in the West Division in teams that are elgible for the postseason tournament. The Golden Tigers trail only Miles and Stillman – both by three wins – and are percentage points ahead of Kentucky State and LeMoyne-Owen.
The Golden Tigers are led at the plate currently by junior Ricky Green, hitting .381 in 63 official at-bats; while also recording a .519 on-base percentage. Freshman Christian Marshall is second on the team in hitting at .333, while senior Alexander Henderson has made his return to the team and is now hitting .324 on the season.
Ryan Green is the only other player hitting above .300, as he is at .306 for the season.
Elgin Woodside has supplied the power for the Golden Tigers this season with a pair of homeruns and a team-leading 17 RBI. He is tied for the team in homeruns by fellow freshmen Jalen Luter and Matthew Reed.
Tuskegee will send Trey Nelson (3-2, 5.20 ERA), the reigning SIAC Pitcher of the Week, to the mound in search of his fourth consecutive conference victory this weekend. He will be joined in the rotation by Joseph Mauldin (2-5, 8.49 ERA) and Eugene Mabota (0-2, 7.76 ERA).
