Alabama Looks to Extend Gun Deer Season

The Alabama gun deer season could run 10 extra days in the upcoming season.

Media outlets report the state Conservation Advisory Board is proposing that firearms deer season run from Nov. 19 through Feb. 10, 2017. However, the board would also make the state’s Game Check program mandatory.

Game Check is a program that is currently voluntary in which licensed and exempt hunters report deer and turkey harvest numbers. Information can be reported by a mobile app, online or through a phone number.

The conservation department has extended deer season in the south Alabama into February for the last two years, due to deer in the south entering breeding season later than deer in the north.
