AUM tabbed as NAIA softball playoff site
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (aumathletics.com) —- Auburn University at Montgomery was selected as one of the 10 host sites for the 4th annual NAIA Softball National Championship Opening Round, the national office announced Wednesday.
In addition to AUM, host institutions include: Davenport University (Mich.), Georgia Gwinnett College, Lindsey Wilson College (Ky.), Louisiana State University Alexandria, Morningside College (Iowa), Oklahoma City University, Reinhardt University (Ga.), Simpson University (Calif.) and St. Gregory’s University (Okla.). Each of these host schools are guaranteed at least an at-large host berth in the National Championship Opening Round.
AUM was one of five sites to have also served as a host site in 2015. Last season, the Warhawks won the Montgomery bracket and went on to win the 2015 NAIA Softball World Series Championship in Sioux City, Iowa. In the three previous Opening Round championships, AUM has posted an undefeated 8-0 record.
The Opening Round site selection process took into account geography, facilities, student-athlete experience and host qualification. The four-team brackets will be played at the host sites from May 16-18.
The 40 qualifiers and pairings for the National Championship Opening Round will be announced May 10.
The champions of each of the 10 Opening Round tournaments will advance to the 36th annual NAIA Softball World Series in Sioux City, Iowa from May 27 – June 2, where they will participate in a double-elimination national championship format at the Elizabeth & Irving Jensen Softball Complex.
