Real estate website Movoto.com, recently ranked the largest 10 cities in Alabama from first to worst. Montgomery ranked near the middle at #6.
Some say that Montgomery deserves to be there.
“Actually, overall I think our city is pretty much cleaning up it’s act,” said Marjorie Gray.
The Movoto poll looked at crime, cost of living, amenities, education, employment, housing, and weather.
The site stated Montgomery’s ranking was down because of crime.
And some are not surprised.
“Crime… Mainly. That’s why we don’t live in town. We just come here for work,” said Chance Armstead.
As for moving to the Capital City, Keller Williams Realtor Taylor Jernigan says these polls don’t really have an impact on newcomers.
“It’s usually based on their work. If they have to relocate to another city, it’s generally for work or perhaps family reasons. Those statistics, whether you are high on a list or low on a list, are generally not going to be the determining factor if you are going there or not. You are either going to go or not going to need to go, so its really more of informational value so you know where you are moving to and what the city is like,” said Jernigan.
Though Montgomery has had a storied past some believe things are getting brighter.
“Montgomery, along with the whole nation is having an increase in crime, but I think our new police chief is making efforts to dialogue with the community more,” said Lillian Jefferson.
Hoover was ranked first as the best place to live. Mobile was ranked 9th followed by Birmimgham ranked 10th.
