Biscuits rise to 4th straight win, 6-3 over Mississippi

MONTGOMERY, Ala (AlabamaNews.Net) — The Montgomery Biscuits are on a four game win streak, taking the first 3 games in their best of 5 home opener series with Mississippi after a 6-3 victory on the first “Thirsty Thursday” of the 2016 season.

After stumbling to an 0-3 start in Jackson, Tennessee, the Biscuits have yet to lose in the friendly confines of Riverwalk Stadium, as the M Braves fall to 1-7 with their latest defeat.

Montgomery starting pitcher Taylor Guerreri ran into some first inning trouble after striking out the first two Brave batsmen.

A Biscuits fielding error allowed the first Brave on the base path, preceding Jacob Schrader’s RBI double to plate the first run for Mississippi.

Two batters later, Venezuela’s Willian Astudillo brought Schrader home with an infield punching RBI single, but that wouldn’t be enough.

Montgomery’s Granden Goetzman  hit the first of his 3 RBI’s on the night in the bottom of the second inning, and then follow with a 2 RBI double in the sixth inning to put the Biscuits up for good.

Biscuit shortstop Willy Adames tied the game with his first home run of the season, a solo shot before Goetzman’s double.

Montgomery goes for it’s fifth straight win Friday night, Biscuits starting pitcher Ryne Stanek looks for his first win of the season as Mississippi counters with Ron Whalen on the mound.

First pitch is set for 7:05 pm.
