Moody tosses 3 hit complete game, AUM downs Methodist 7-1

PULASKI, Tenn. (aumathletics.com) — Senior Raymond Moody tossed a career-high nine innings, scattering just three hits en route to his second complete game of the season, and lifted the No. 8 Auburn Montgomery baseball team to a 7-1 victory in its Southern States Athletic Conference opener at Martin Methodist Friday.

NOTES
• With the win, the Warhawks improved to 33-11 on the year and 15-4 in league games.

• The RedHawks fell to 17-18 overall and 5-10 in conference play.

STANDOUT PERFORMERS

• Moody improved to 7-1 on the year with 9.0 innings of three-hit ball. He struck out five and walked just one, needing only 97 pitches to throw the complete game.

• Kaleb Harris had a pair of hits and reached base three times for the Warhawks. He also drove in a run.

• Mac Seibert connected on his team-leading fourth home run of the year. Seibert finished the contest 1-for-5 with two RBIs and a run scored.

• Dalton Kelley drove in two runs for AUM

• Brandon Pooler and Houston Davenport each finished 2-for-5 with a run scored. Pooler also drove in a run.

• Cody Rush was 1-for-4 with a double, run scored and a walk.

• Jackson Pruitt drove in the lone run of the game for the RedHawks.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED

• AUM took the lead for good with a run in the first inning. Pooler and Davenport each singled to open the game, before Kelley plated Pooler with a groundout.

• The Warhawks added a run in the second inning on a groundout by Pooler, scoring Trey Matherson.

• AUM extended its lead to 4-0 in the third on a two-run homer by Seibert. The long ball scored Harris, who ripped a one-out single.

• In the fourth, AUM upped its advantage to 6-0 on a bases-loaded walk by Kelley and a single by Harris.

• The RedHawks had their best opportunity to get back into the game in the fifth inning. Moody hit Cole Porter to open the inning, before Brandon Bush ripped a double to put runners at second and third. Following a pop up on the infield, Pruitt grounded out to shortstop Brandon Davis, allowing Porter to score. Moody retired Jacob Kirkwood via strikeout to end the threat.

• The Warhawks got the run back in the top of the sixth inning, when Davenport scored on a wild pitch.

 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

• Each team turned a double play in the contest.

• The RedHawks committed two errors, compared to just one by the Warhawks.

• Martin Methodist left just four runners on base, while AUM stranded 11 runners.

 

UP NEXT

• The Warhawks and RedHawks will conclude their series Saturday with a doubleheader, beginning at 1 p.m.
