Trojan trio nab All-Sun Belt golf honors
TROY, Ala (troytrojans.com) – A trio of Troy women’s golfers were named to the All-Sun Belt Conference Team, the league office announced at a banquet Monday night following the second round of the Sun Belt Championship.
Fátima Fernández Cano was named to the first team for the third straight year, while Bianca Lohbauer and Gabi Oubre’ were named to the second team. The conference will announce Player of the Year, Freshman of the Year and Coach of the Year following postseason play.
Cano, who is ranked 21st in the latest World Amateur Golf Rankings, has won five of her eight tournaments this season and ranks seventh in the country with a 71.74 stroke average and -0.17 score versus par. She entered the Sun Belt Championship ranked 200 spots ahead of the league’s next ranked player in the Golfstat national rankings and has won three of the league’s four Golfer of the Month awards this year.
Lohbauer entered the Sun Belt Championship with a 76.24 stroke average on the year and a 75.24 mark in the spring. She finished in the top 25 in four of her eight tournaments this season, which included a pair of top-10 finishes. Lohbauer ended the season playing her best golf with a fourth-place finish at the Samford Intercollegiate before tying for third at the Rebel Intercollegiate to close out the year.
Oubre’ finished the season second on the team with a 75.83 stroke average in addition to firing a 75.67 average in the spring. She entered the Sun Belt Championship with five rounds under par this season and 87 percent of her rounds counting towards the team card. Oubre’ has a trio of top-10 finishes this year and has placed in the top 25 in five events. She also finished strong as she placed third at the Samford Intercollegiate before tying for ninth at the Rebel Intercollegiate.
Troy is in second place entering Tuesday’s final round of the Sun Belt Conference Championship. The Trojans tee off at 8:15 a.m. and will have to rally from 12 shot back to win their third consecutive Sun Belt title.
