AUM regains #2 ranking in latest NAIA softball poll
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (aumathletics.com) — The Auburn-Montgomery softball team moved up one spot to No. 2 in the fifth regular-season NAIA Softball Coaches’ Top 25 Poll, the national office released Tuesday afternoon.
Oklahoma City (48-1) collected 18-of-19 first-place votes and a total of 529 points in the poll. St. Gregory’s (35-5) fell one spot to number three with 495 points.
The Warhawks took the remaining first-place vote for a total of 502 points, and moved up to No. 2 in the poll. The team has posted a 42-5 (16-4 SSAC) record, and are currently first in the Southern States Athletic Conference.
No. 8 William Carey (30-13, 417 points) fell two spots from the previous week. No. 13 Martin Methodist (39-12, 320 points) remained in the same spot for the second consecutive poll, and is the only other SSAC team to be named in the top 25. Brenau fell just outside of the top 25 with 102 total points in the receiving votes category, and Bethel was the final conference team to be in the receiving votes category with eight points.
The Warhawks will finish the regular season on Wednesday, April 20, as they host No. 9 Georgia Gwinnett College. The first game of the doubleheader is set to begin at 3 p.m.
