The fired head of the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, Spencer Collier, has just filed a lawsuit against Governor Robert Bentley, his former Senior Political Adviser Rebekah Mason, the current head of ALEA, Stan Stabler and several others.

The suit alleges that Collier was wrongfully fired from his position. It also claims invasion of privacy, defamation and other allegations against the defendants.

Collier has said he was fired for refusing to lie to the Attorney General’s office about the case against House Speaker Mike Hubbard.

It was Collier who first publicly stated that Bentley and Mason were engaged in a personal relationship. The governor has admitted to making inappropriate comments to Mason, but says there was never a physical affair.

The governor has released this statement regarding the lawsuit: “Mr. Collier was terminated of his duties at ALEA for cause. Once the facts and circumstances become public, I am confident that the justification for terminating him will be shown. We will aggressively defend this lawsuit.”

The suit was filed in Montgomery County Circuit Court. It seeks an undetermined amount of compensatory and punitive damages.
