Dozens of area teens received a lesson in distracted driving Thursday afternoon.
Instructors included professional stunt drivers and race car drivers. The teens completed several driving courses and were reminded about the important use of seatbelts and the dangers of drowsy driving. Officials say Alabama is a 5 year all time high for traffic fatalities among teens and they want to cut down on those numbers. Teens participating say the event gives them a chance to learn from their mistakes on the road instead of acquiring bad habits.
“There’s a lot of irresponsible teenagers out there but there are also a lot of people that would like to be responsible. They just don’t what’s safe, they don’t know what to do, they don’t understand their own limits and I think this is looking like it will be a good reminder just getting some good experience,” student driver James Edington.
The Governor’s Highway Association was also a sponsor in the training for teens.
