Today is Earth Day. Every year, people across the globe try to bring awareness to environmental protection. In Pike Road, the day marks the near end of an annual week-long cleanup campaign.
Groups and even neighbors are encouraged to pick up litter across the town through the weekend. Despite the rain, groups were out today. The town is providing free supplies to help in the effort. Gloves, safety vests and garbage bags are all available at town hall. The mayor hopes this becomes a year long habit.
Gordon Stone, Pike Road Mayor said, “If you have an area near your neighborhood that you want to claim or adopt, this will be ours, we encourage you to do that on a regular basis. And we can even identify that will signage and say this belongs to the such and such association and make sure that it stays clean.”
You can pick up supplies at Town Hall from 8 to 10 Saturday morning. The dumpster will be outside in the parking lot for you to drop off whatever you pick up.
